Uncle Eric’s Damper
Each school holidays there are activities in the Village to appeal to school aged children. All sorts of activities are held – and this September we introduced Uncle Eric’s Damper. Uncle Eric, one of the hard working volunteers showed the children how to make damper – and when the damper was cooked the children had a taste of damper and honey. Each child was given a beautiful recipe sheet so perhaps they can go home and show their family their new cooking skills.
School holidays can be a busy time in the Village, not only with children enjoying their holidays, but other groups choose to visit too.
Two groups visited which kept the Tour Guides very busy – and as some were elderly, we brought out the the buggies, to show some folk around.
One of our Volunteers who had only just joined the volunteer team, was “thrown in the deep end” by being the driver and Tour Guide with one of the buggies!! Well done James!
(We are always looking for more volunteers, and opportunities to wear costume and have some fun abound. Our Sewing Team are very busy creating more costumes for us to wear.)
One of the visiting groups was from the Redcliffe area and many visitors had been to the Village previously, and were impressed with the way the village has grown over the years and were high in their praise for the care of the history of the area.
There are many new exhibits including the stiff legged derrick adjacent to the Maritime Museum.
What is a Stiff Leg Derrick you may ask? Here is information from Wikipedia.
