AUSTRALIA – a vibrant sculpture created for a one-off event is now making a permanent patriotic entrance statement at a historic village.

Designed by Ken Done for Expo 88 in Brisbane, the giant letters made from steel have been brought back to life after fading in a cow paddock at a secondary school north of Brisbane until three years ago.

It was then that a community-minded couple stepped in to purchase the sculpture from the school and gifted it to the Caboolture Historical Village.

Restored and relocated, this sign and another stacked one that’s now inside the museum, are now shining again.  The sculpture, initially created 33 years ago, was painted using house paint with each letter reflecting Ken Done’s design.

Love seeing iconic art restored and treated with respect!!!

Location: Caboolture Historical Village entrance, corner Beerburrum Rd and Tuckeroo Drive – Visit Moreton Bay Region.

The Australian Street Art Awards is a “Tourism Awards for Public Art” program, with nine categories recognising destinations that use publicly-accessible art in all its many forms to attract and entertain visitors.

2020 Awards are closed.  Winners will be announced during the Art of Attraction Tourism Summit in early March.
