Did you know that most of the workers at the Caboolture Historical Village are volunteers? While some are there as part of their Centrelink conditions, many are there because they learn new skills, meet new people, and have a lot of fun.
What do our volunteers do? We have a vast array of duties for our volunteers – from gardeners, maintenance of buildings and machinery, driving our mini train, in the office welcoming visitors to the Village, in one of our two café’s, in our sewing room creating great crafts for our little shop near the Redhall Café, and helping with arrangements for weddings and other functions in the Village.
Do you like dressing up? We are seeking folk to act as Tour Guides – and it is not as complex as the title might suggest. Our Tour Guides have a Tablet with information about our many buildings and items in the Village, and we like them to wear costume (provided from our vast collection). They interact with the many (usually seniors) who visit the Village on the many bus and group tours. We also would like more helpers for our School’s program – where our volunteers participate in re-enactments to show the students just what life was like “in the olden days.” Sometimes it is just a matter of wandering in the Village in costume to provide some interest.
It is generally a fun filled place to spend some time – and many new friendships are formed, new skills developed, and you will be participating in a great program to share information about the history of Australia, and Caboolture in particular.
There’s no age limit, most of our volunteers need to have a Blue Card (which the Village arranges, which is required for working with children, which we do quite a bit of in the Village.
If you can spare one or two days a week, or more, we’d love to hear from you. We are really keen to find folk who would be able to work on occasional weekends too.
Our gardeners would love to have more women on their team. It appears that women are more knowledgeable about the plants in the Village – apparently some men can’t identify weeds!
Do you like Writing? Photography? Collecting?
We can use your skills. Our Curatorial team needs some more volunteers. Organising events or functions? Yes, we need helpers for some of the events we are planning for this year. We need someone to work in our sign writing department too. No skills in this? You will be taught! There are many places to find interesting work in the Village.
Phone Trevor on 5495 4581 to make an appointment for an interview. He doesn’t work every day, so you might like to leave a message for him to call you back or you can contact him on [email protected]
Come on in, we’d love to work with you!
